"My mission is to fairly administer justice, strictly interpret and apply the laws, and quickly resolve legal disputes for litigants."
— Geoff Barr
About Geoff Barr
Geoff Barr, former Comal County Criminal District Attorney (2007-2010), announced his bid for Judge of Comal County Court at Law #1. Barr will seek the bench in the 2026 Republican Primary, left vacant with the retirement of Judge Randy Gray at the end of his current term.
Barr has enjoyed a 25-year career that has prepared him to be a qualified conservative judge. Barr started his private practice in New Braunfels in 2000, representing clients in a variety of civil and criminal matters. In 2003, former Comal County Criminal District Attorney Dib Waldrip hired Barr as an Assistant District Attorney and later promoted him to Chief Civil Prosecutor. In that role, Barr represented Comal County and Commissioners Court on a vast array of issues, including the creation of an ordinance that, to this day, discourages sexually-oriented businesses from operating in Comal County.
In 2007, Governor Rick Perry appointed Barr as Comal County Criminal District Attorney, followed by Barr’s election victory in 2008. During his tenure, Barr personally prosecuted homicides, drug crimes, and child-victim crimes while managing a team of professional prosecutors.
In 2012, then-Attorney General Greg Abbott hired Barr to lead human trafficking prosecutions in his Criminal Prosecutions Division and he was cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas. In these roles, Barr successfully obtained convictions and lengthy prison sentences against child human traffickers in both state and federal courts, while successfully prosecuting complex homicides across Texas. Barr’s efforts on behalf of Texas resulted in special recognition by the Texas Bar Journal, three film and television documentaries, the Texas Department of Public Safety Commission, and the Texas Attorney General’s Office. In 2022, Attorney General Ken Paxton named Barr as Chief of his Election Integrity Division, where he currently serves the citizens.
Barr is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization; an achievement earned by less than 6% of Texas’ lawyers. For nearly a decade, Barr has served as an adjunct professor at Texas State University, teaching the legal system to students majoring in criminal justice.
Barr is an active conservative Republican, serving as a Delegate to the 2008 and 2020 Republican State Conventions, Parliamentarian at the 2018, 2020, and 2022 Republican Comal County Conventions and Chair of the Rules Committee for the Republican Comal County Convention for 2020 and 2022.
Geoff and his wife, Betsy, were raised in Comal County and graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1992. Married in 1999, they are incredibly proud of their three children. He is the son of Dr. Gary and Pam Barr of New Braunfels and Barbara Davis of Florida. Barr is an active member of the Downtown Rotary Club of New Braunfels and the Wurstfest Association. He and his family worship at Hope Presbyterian Church.
Barr looks forward to the opportunity to serve the citizens of Comal County as Judge of County Court at Law #1, and he thanks Judge Gray for his two decades of commitment and service.
